QUEENSLAND CABARET FESTIVAL 2022

QUEENSLAND CABARET FESTIVAL

Come up for air at Cabfest ’22!

Breathing new life into the cabaret canon, Cabfest ’22 calls out to the misfits, the eccentrics, the brilliant, and bewildering. After years of holding our breath, it’s time to come ashore and let it all out.

Thursday will be sweet, sour and salty as we set sail on the high seas of song. On Friday, Cabfest puts on its cultured pearls and dives deep into the world of Poulenc and Beethoven. Saturday is full of charm and laughter with Tyrone and Lesley and The Banter Brothers.

Join us at Metro Arts for a celebration of creativity, music and storytelling.

THE SALTY SIRENS

THE SALTY SIRENS

THE SALTY SIRENS

Presented by Queensland Cabaret Festival

Hoist the anchor and limber up those sealegs – these aren’t your grandpa’s sea shanties!

Roll on down for a raucous singalong of sea shanties, and sea songs old and new with The Salty Sirens. These Sapphic sailors and their ragtag band of pirate mateys will lead you on a musical journey through tales of shipwork, daring adventure, defiance and debauchery.

Expect bellowing squeeze boxes, twiddling fiddles, and belly laughs, as you meander through traditional and modern nautical folk song.

If you’ve never sung a shanty in your landlubbin’ life, don’t worry! The Salty Sirens will teach you all the important bits. Come aboard salty sea dogs and landlubbers alike! It’s shore to be a swell night.

“These gigs are magical. They are the musical equivalent of climbing trees and doing cartwheels.” – Ruckus Brisbane

“We may never get the chance to sail the seas in a pirate ship, but a night at the Shanty Club with the Salty Sirens might be as close as it gets.” – Nothing Ever Happens in Brisbane

YOU ARE PATHETIC!

YOU ARE PATHETIC!

YOU ARE PATHETIC!

By Sanfeliu
Presented by Queensland Cabaret Festival

Electro-acoustic troubadour Sanfeliu plays Ludwig’s Sonata Op.13 like you’ve never heard it before.

The year is 1798. As the century draws to an end, young Ludwig struggles to make sense of the creative process, and of his own artistic and personal identity. It is a time of promise, but also a time of fear: Liberty, equality, humanity… but also exploitation, colonisation, industrialisation. As the old world crumbles down, young Ludwig tries to find a way forward through music.

Electro-acoustic troubadour Sanfeliu plays Ludwig’s Sonata Op.13 like you’ve never heard it before in this gripping multi-media stage piece about music, difference, and finding harmony between humans, nature and technology.

“Sanfeliu brings it all together with a lyrical style of personal intimacy and unexpected humour.” – Ned Hammond, Westender 2021

STRING: AN ODD EVENING WITH TYRONE AND LESLEY

STRING: AN ODD EVENING WITH TYRONE AND LESLEY

STRING: AN ODD EVENING WITH TYRONE AND LESLEY

Presented by Queensland Cabaret Festival

For one night only experience the refinement, alignment and entwinement of Tyrone and Lesley.

Unwinding as a cross between a concert and slide night they’ll make your heartstrings ring as they string together 20 years of hits and premiere songs from their new recording String.

Tyrone and Lesley play light music for dark times, fashioned to fly across the footlights and into your heart.

This dashing duo has played their ukulele and double bass at the Sydney Opera House, headlined in the UK, New Zealand, and festivals all over Australia. Just like their odd combination of instruments, this unlikely pair divine humour and harmony in the highs and lows to grasp that we all belong somewhere – even the odd ones out.

“The two were just pure magic together… it would be a sin to miss it.”thecreativeissue (AUS)

“This show carries a charm that has you humming the tunes all the way home.” – Stage Whispers
