METRO ARTS @ WEST VILLAGE

METRO ARTS @ WEST VILLAGE

Bringing West End its first live theatre in 25 years, Metro Arts is now officially open in West Village.

Kicking off with a bang, the remaining 2020 season features premiere performances, provocative productions, installations and exhibitions.

The new purpose-built precinct features an underground theatre, two galleries, two rehearsal rooms and the Factory Lane outdoor precinct which encompasses the foyer, box office, café and bar.

Specialising in the development of new work, Metro Arts champions artists taking risks, creating, developing, experimenting, and presenting ambitious contemporary work.

This new hub in West End’s diverse community will be THE place in Brisbane to experience the work of contemporary artists with a year-round program of innovative theatre, cabaret, comedy, music and visual art.

NORMAN PARK SUBSTATION NO.9

NORMAN PARK SUBSTATION NO.9

In 2007 Metro Arts launched its satellite facility in Norman Park, 5km from Metro Arts’ building in the CBD, which provides much needed additional and affordable artist studios for creative practitioners in Brisbane’s inner South-East. The facility is close to bus services and the Norman Park Ferry Stop (which runs between Norman Park and New Farm Park).

Originally built as a substation for the Brisbane tramways network, the Norman Park facility has been thoughtfully refurbished to preserve many of the original fixtures. It accommodates five individual studio spaces, a communal kitchen, and a multi-use space for short to long-term hire suitable for workshops, events and filming or photoshoots. In addition, there is shared space in the neighbouring shed for five artists and since its launch, ceramicists have relished this space.

Please note, the five studio spaces, communal kitchen and bathrooms are accessible via stairs only.

ADDRESS

97 Wynnum Road, Norman Park

The Norman Park facility was established as an initiative of Metro Arts, Brisbane City Council and Arts Queensland through the Gritty Places program and continues with the support of Brisbane City Council. The Substation provides much needed space and opportunities for

Brisbane artists and is a valuable part of the local community and its creative culture.

In 2019 Norman Park Substation was refurbished and now has a large kitchen and communal meeting area. This project was proudly funded by a Building Stronger Communities grant from the Brisbane City Council, and supported by the Lord Mayor’s Community Fund.
