Metro Arts presents a multidisciplinary program of work across contemporary performance, visual art, dance, experimental theatre, digital art, and social practice. Our program facilitates projects in various stages of development and forms of presentation over the year.
These works are programmed in a range of ways; through a curatorial process by Programming staff and engaged external curators, and through an open-call platform that we run once a year for our Performance and Exhibition Programs. There may also be opportunistic calls for artists and work for MicroFestival projects.
Open-call proposals are assessed by an advisory group, consisting of Programming staff, a rotating assembly of external industry professionals, and representatives of our highly-skilled and internationally connected Curatorium. In this way we draw on multiple perspectives, a wide pool of industry knowledge, and a pragmatic focus and understanding of the needs of Brisbane artists and how Metro Arts is best placed to meet these.
The program is focused on artists working on the discovery of new work and new forms, and is delivered such that it enables the artistic development of participating artists. Surrounding its programs Metro Arts has assembled a wide range of formal and informal services and networks to facilitate artists’ broader engagement with the industry including venues, companies, curators and producers.
