Dear Diary is an exploration into journal keeping using visual art as the medium of expression.
Dear Diary is an exploration into journal keeping using visual art as the medium of expression. Colour, shape and composition will be the language used to convey Sophie’s thoughts and feelings each day.
A new work will be created daily, resulting in a visual experience of Sophie’s headspace over three weeks. What colours show up on happy days? What does frustration or fatigue look like? These are questions Sophie will explore for herself, and hopes to prompt the viewer to ask themselves.
Sophie believes that everyone’s experience of expression is unique, but always therapeutic when allowed space. The focus of this project is not on the aesthetics of the entries each day, but the vulnerability and emotion that they contain.
Sophie is a Gamilaraay artist living on Bundjalung Country. She works with ceramic sculpture and mixed media painting, as well as photography and textiles. She is in her second year of a Bachelor of Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art at Queensland College of Art (QCA) in SouthBank. Sophie explores expressionism using both painting and sculpture making. Her work is loose, colourful and expressive. She is inspired by nature, emotions and her mixed cultural background. She is passionate about the benefits art has on our mental well being, and believes it can be used as a powerful tool.
