What does it mean to be human in an age of artificial intelligence?
The earliest known robot was a steam-powered pigeon, created in 400 BC. It was said to have been successful because it fooled the birds to believe it was one of their own.
Since the days of the steam-powered pigeon, our robots have become increasingly human. The birds were fooled – are we?
Pigeon Fool is a theatrical Turing Test to explore humanness in the midst of the AI revolution.
From the artists behind Truthmachine, Counterpilot is developing a new interactive tabletop theatre work in collaboration with some cunning algorithms and virtual beings.
This project is supported by Metro Arts Creative Development Program 2024.
Metro Arts Creative Development Program supports experimentation, collaboration, and exploration of new forms and models by emerging and mid-career artists.
Counterpilot is a collective of interdisciplinary artists directed by Nathan Sibthorpe, with Mike Willmett (sound designer), Christine Felmingham (technical designer), Elizabeth Hunt (creative producer), and a constellation of Australian artists, technicians and tinkerers.
Counterpilot continues to produce interactive performance works that boldly experiment with new applications of technology.
With interactive tools like geo-locative audio, SMS distribution networks, RFID voting systems, multi-layered video, and biometric sensors, Counterpilot seeks to put the audience at the centre of every performance experience – whether it be for physical journeys, experiential narrative, or heightened gameplay.
Support the future of Australian contemporary arts practice, now.
We love what we do. The artists love what we do. You love what we do.
