Micah Rustichelli is a Meanjin-based, multidisciplinary artist working primarily in painting and performance art.
Since 2016 Rustichelli has been developing an expanded practice that investigates the role of the self and the body in relation to art making. Micah’s endurance-based works A Body Which Draws Itself and Demon Rhythm, challenge the value we place on images and the world around us.

Micah Rustichelli (MR): Experimental, abstract, artistic.
WHAT CAN AUDIENCES EXPECT?
MR: Audiences can expect a unique way to view performance. They are invited to peruse the space, go between an exhibition of paintings, to an experimental movement performance.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS A PERFORMER/CREATIVE?
MR: As an artist, I like to sit at the intersection of many forms and practices. I pull from experiences in dance, visual art, clowning, process, and improve to create my blended, transdisciplinary art.
WHO INSPIRES YOU AND WHY?
MR: I am inspired by Carolee Schneemann, Cassils, Florentina Holzinger, Matthew Barney, Betty Grumble, and very different artists all of whom explore, subvert, worship, and challenge the body, its capabilities, and its meaning.
HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR LOVE FOR PERFORMING ARTS?
MR: I had always enjoyed performing from a very young age, however, when I began to study performance art and the crossover of fine arts and contemporary performance is when I fell in love with what you can do with performing arts.
