ALEXANDER VOGUE NIGHT
By House of Alexander
Presented by Metro Arts and Mad Dance House
Strike a pose! House of Alexander are taking over Metro Arts for a glamourous celebration where art meets activism.
House of Alexander invites you to an evening of celebration, empowerment and glamour. Continuing ballroom’s rich history of creating space specifically for our queer communities, this event is where art meets activism in spectacular fashion.
Born in the vibrant streets of Harlem, New York, ‘vouging’ or ‘vogue’ is a highly stylised form of dance created by black and Latinx LGBTQ+ communities out of oppression. Today, ballroom is more than just a competition: it is a way of life and an act of survival for the marginalised voices in our community. The House of Alexander brings ballroom to the thriving Meanjin scene with the intention to empower and reclaim the autonomies of our people, ultimately celebrating bodies of all shapes and sizes, and all identities within the gender spectrum.
Spectators and walkers alike are encouraged to dress in pink, and join us at 6pm when doors open to find a seat and take in the looks.
Categories commence at 7pm sharp, tardiness will not be considered a dance move.
