Over the next 12 months Tay will be working closely on three projects that span across sculpture, performance and video. The ideas central to each three projects include queer abstraction, the contrast between grit and polish, ambiguity as productive openness, surveillance culture, imagined futures and queer time. Previously Tay has had a material focus on stainless steel, acrylic mirror, vinyl and found objects. Tay will continue these material relationships and undertake this residency as an exciting opportunity to additionally experiment with more translucent matter, such as mist, glass and eco resin, into my making process.
Tay said,
“Throughout the residency I am keen to cement collaboration as a key component within my practice, in particular i’m excited to work with local trans identifying creatives and thinkers. “
