Taking cues from traditional Dutch still life painting and ‘Tulip Mania’, #FLOWERS is a program that gathers images of flowers taken from Instagram and algorithmically collages them over hand-drawn still life imagery. These images are printed in the gallery space every 28 seconds, referencing the average viewing time of an artwork in a museum context; yet also creating a supply of work that meets no actual demand.
Exhibition-goers are welcomed to take and collect these still life images with them, creating a moment of transaction and dispersing these images more widely into the community.
