Natano Fa’anana’s unique style of performance draws inspiration from his Samoan roots, fused with acrobatics, aerials and dance. He has achieved international recognition through his work with the award winning Polytoxic Theatre Company, as Co-creator and Performer in Briefs: All Male Review, and in his current role as Co-founder, Creative Director and Company Member of Casus.
Natano entered the world of performing in his thirties and chose to learn from individuals rather than through schools or institutions which has given him a unique blend of different styles, movement and culture. “I love art, I love circus and I’m a story teller. Creating shows is my outlet. Instead of making our art on a canvas with a paintbrush we do it with our bodies.”
Dr. Bridget Boyle is a co-founder of debase productions. She has worked extensively in the field of clowning as a director, performer and teacher, having studied with Philippe Gaulier in 2001.
With debase she has been involved in the creation of many new works, including The Longest Minute (co-production with Queensland Theatre and JUTE), co-winner of Best Mainstage Production Matilda Awards 2018.
Directing credits include, for Queensland Theatre: The Holidays (QPDA Finalist reading), The Longest Minute, Rice (QPDA Finalists reading), The Landmine is Me, and Hurry up and Wait. For Flipside Circus: We Live Here (co-directed with Natano Fa’anana, Winner, Best Direction 2018 Matilda Awards),The Owl and the Pussycat (Little Match Productions), Dead Man’s Cellphone, Little Revolution, Bassett, Twelve Angry Women and Top Girls for Queensland University of Technology, Popping Lead Balloons, The Clown from Snowy River, The Look, Lovejunk, and Titanic – the Clown Show for debase.
Robert is the creative producer and CEO of Flipside Circus. He is a co-founder of debase and was general manager until 2016. He was the director of programming and director of operations at Metro Arts until 2008.
Robert has worked extensively as a director, writer, performer, dramaturg, and producer for companies including; La Boite, HotHouse Theatre, Brisbane Festival, Queensland Theatre, and Queensland Performing Arts Centre. He’s has written a number of plays including The Longest Minute (with Nadine McDonald-Dowd), for Queensland Theatre and JUTE, winner of two Matilda Awards, and published by Playlab Press in 2019), Ithaca Road (nominated for an AWGIE Award and published by Playlab Press in 2014), and We That Are Left (nominated for an AWGIE Award in 2016), Fly-In Fly-Out, and Snagged (both published by Playlab Press).
Amy is a performing circus artist and trainer. When Amy is not busy performing across Australia with the Wildhouse Circus, she is teaching aspiring artists. After performing nationally with the Fruit Flies, she graduated in 2015 and moved back home to Brisbane. Amy’s latest performing adventures have included an all-female, highly acrobatic show called Boss Squad – a collaboration between Point and Flex Circus and Madhouse Circus. An all ages, family friendly circus show by Wildhouse Circus called & I’ll Cry If I Want To and Flipside Circus production of We Live Here.
Luke started circus training during kindy and joined the Flipside Performance Troupe when he was 7. The past 6 years have seen him perform all over Brisbane in a range of circus physical theatre shows including We Live Here, Summer Play Factor – SPF, Teddy’s Toy Box, Wilber the Optical Whale and
Wasteland. Luke performed in Revolve as part of the 2018 Commonwealth Games Festival, and in 2018 Brisbane Festival and Sydney Festival in Beth Morrison’s production of HOME.
In 2017 Luke was awarded a Del Arte Charts award for Favourite Supporting Male Performance for his role of Luke the Amazing in Flipside Circus Cabaret Show. Luke loves the process of creating and performing in unique physical theatre productions, and is working towards a full-time career as a professional circus artist once he leaves school.
Indra Garvey has been nurtured by Flipside Circus since age 6, where she loves tumbling, acrobatics and performing. After joining Flipside’s performance troupe in 2017 Indra has performed in many shows including Fusion, Wasteland, and Revolve as part of the 2018 Commonwealth Games Festival and ’18/19 Woodford Folk Festival and award-winning show We Live Here. Indra is also a trainer at Flipside Circus, assisting and coaching 3-13-year-old participants.
Isla started circus classes when she was 5, and joined Flipside’s Performance Troupe in 2021 at the age of 10. She loves contortion, aerials (especially silks) and learning new acro tricks. Isla performed in Summer Play Factor – SPF as part of the Brisbane Festival and South Bank Christmas Show in 2021.
