ARI
In a move to help stimulate a stronger artist-run movement in Queensland, Metro Arts created the Artist-Run Initiative Program, which provides an arts collective a space and business development support to establish an ARI and run it independently.
Artist-Run Initiative in Residence 2010: inbetweenspaces
inbetweenspaces is a Brisbane based
artist-run initiative with a history of organizing individual, collaborative and group exhibition projects across disused and transitory sites. The initiative fosters unique exhibition opportunities for contemporary artists, supporting works that develop innovative dialogs with local environments.
As a one year experiment, inbetweenspaces will run a gallery program encouraging the creation of new experimental, trans-disciplinary and collaborative exhibition outcomes. Differing from conventional programs this exhibition model will follow transitory connections between artists and exhibitions so new artworks emerge, collide and interact. This program will run alongside and form part of inbetweenspaces’ wider program of transitory exhibitions for other public spaces. Alongside these exhibitions, Studio 3.10 will operate as an in-between site connecting independent Brisbane artists, art writers and curators to practitioners of different creative spheres and locations.
inbetweenspaces is co-directed by Sarah Byrne, Danielle Clej and Ruth McConchie.
